Different Types Of Hormones In The Body
The endocrine system is the network which contains all the hormone producing organs and gland in the human body. These glands produce and secrete different types of hormones in the body. These hormones are essential to maintain the important body processes which include growth and development, tissue functions and metabolism. There proper working is essential for the body maintain proper functioning of the body. A hormonal imbalance has a extreme effect on the body.
There are several kinds of hormones secreted by the endocrine system of our body. Each has its own function and significance in the proper functioning of our body. Some of the important hormones of human body along with their function are:
- Growth hormone: The growth hormone is secreted by the pituitary gland in the body. This hormone is responsible for proper growth and development of the body. It helps in building up of muscles and maintaining bone mass.
- Insulin: Insulin is responsible for regulating the glucose content of the blood. It is produced in the pancreas and the lack of insulin in the body causes diabetics.
- Adrenaline and noradrenaline: These hormones are produced by adrenal glands situated at top of kidney. They work in coordination to help the body to respond in emergency situations. They boost up the oxygen supply to the brain to respond in a proper way and take the body on power saver mode by suppressing non useful bodily functions like digestion.
- Vasopressin: This hormone helps in maintaining the blood pressure and water and electrolyte balance in the body.
- Calcitonin: This hormone is produced by the thyroid gland and it aids in the process of bone construction.
- Estrogen, oestrogen and progestagens: These are the sex hormones in the female human body. Estrogen helps in regulating the menstrual cycle in adult females while oestrogen helps in the proper development of the reproductive system of the body including breast, vagina and ovaries.
- Testosterone: This is the male sex hormone that aids in regulating the male sex drive and the growth of male sex organs. It also instills aggressiveness and a spirit of competition in males.
- Melatonin: This is also called the ‘sleep’ hormone. It regulates the biological clock of the body.

There are several other important hormones that are produced in our body which are equally important in ensuring a healthy body for us.
